Yeah, you nailed it. I have similar feelings about modern art. When I was at art school, everyone was ooo-ing and ahh-ing over certain modern artists and architects and I'm thinking to myself "what am I missing here". I have respect for the pioneers because their work still kept some degree of sanity.

Yes, I have thought the same, what am I missing....modern is a chapter in art they should have left out if you ask me. The great ones are dead....as simple as that....it had to have been wonderful to live in those days, see the world enfold before your eyes, now it is not worth seeing anymore. I think they were more concerned with quality before, that in many cases seem to be lost....in a world were you can create a name for yourself by painting a cube on a black sheet...had that person now only been the first...well, it does not justify it anyway...but then again I like classical art and architecture.

I prefer the work of the pioneers like I said, there was still some semblence of control and aesthetic. Artists like to push the boundaries, which is a good thing otherwise we would not see progress, BUT, sometimes they go too far when innovation borders on ludicrous and in some cases clearly crosses the line by a mile. I'm old fashioned like you I guess. I don't mind abstract or surreal art, but ugly is ugly no matter what you label it. But then again, ugly to me is beautiful to someone else.

It's all been done to death you're so right. In all areas of art. Fashion, music, film etc... I'm so bored of everything, I get very excited when something new comes along. Doesn't happen often though. We can blame technology for this new plastic trend. It's a double edged sword, makes our work easier but also robs the work of any soul or human touch. I guess in a way this is something new in its own right.
Huff, huff... lol.

I am sorry for my late response, I avoided the internet for a while because of insomnia, I got a little bit weird and I felt I had already spoken enough. Yes, very well spoken...well, I gather this is no longer a world for souls, if it ever have been, empty, filled with life that do not please my eye.

Insomnia is not fun. Lack of sleep does make the brain go weird. Yeah, souless describes it perfectly.
