Description I've always been drawn to ethreal and other-worldly art styles and expressions. As a kid, I really enjoyed reading myths and legends from other countries and I was fascinated with unicorns and mermaids and more. I read a snippet from the Beowulf saga while I was still in grade school and the artwork really caught my attention. I can still see those pictures pretty clearly in my head. That's how big an impression they made on me. Then, when I watched 'The Dark Crystal' for the first time, I was sold on that style of art.

Another style of ethereal and magical painting that I really enjoy is straw painting, also called blow painting. I've posted a few of my attempts in my deviations. I want to do more and try out different methods. Here's a YouTube video I found in which the painting in created without a straw.

I decided I wanted to start featuring artists but I can't do it on a regular basis. I'll just do it whenever time allows. Here are some artists who have fantastic styles similar to the ones which inspired me as a kid. Most of these were discovered tonight as I did a search with specific keywords, which seems to mean they've been deviants for a long time. I'm not sure what that says for new artists just starting out here!

The first is creaturesfromel who creates pieces like this which blow me away. The details...the tiny details! I love them! It's worth your time to take a look.

The next one is puimun who is a professional traditional artist. I really like this piece. Her work is beautiful and you should definitely check it out.

Here's a nice example of blow painting by Iceprince887   . He has a varied and wonderful collection of artwork so you should stop by and check out his gallery.

Next is a beautiful piece from shadowgirl   . I hope you'll stop by and give her gallery a look. It's definitely worth your time. Her use of color and line are amazing to me. She conveys emotion and spirit in each of her works that is just mind-blowing!

This last piece is one of my favorites from INKmagineandCreate (who I met through a facebook art challenge group) . The details and use of color are so well done, in my opinion. I like the mixture of sharp edges with soft shading. If you take a look at her gallery, you'll see a nice variety of creative arts definitely worth your time.

I hope you'll take the time to check out some of these artists. I know I'm glad I took the time to do so. I look forward to doing another of these features in the future. It probably will not be until after the new year, though. Thanks for reading!

Thank you!    I hope to feature newer artists/deviants next time, though.  And if possible, I'd like to try to feature ones who are under-appreciated. There's nothing worse than being lost in the feed.
