Also, there are many wasted hours if not careful, of just ending up with nothing in particular. Unlike UF, you can't plan exactly what you want to end up with - at least I'm not that good at it that I can do so at this time

I agree. It's really trial and error until you get to a certain level like poor Titia.
I once asked her if she could do what she wanted and she replied that she could.

I think Titia had a good knowledge of the maths behind the program, so yes, that doesn't surprise me at all. It's quite unusual for someone to be really good at both maths and art in the way that she was.
