While I can definitely see the flawed logic, if you try to really break it down it can make a little more sense. For instance, all those subjects sort of clash together. The instance of drinking, and smoking especially does not require one to be mature to do so, in most cases people who do them lack maturity in the aspect of self-control. I was down that road, and I had no grip on my reality until things happened in my life to show it, until that point I didn't have the self control or self respect to quit harming my body. The whole saying of teenagers not being allowed to do such things is not to point out they are immature, but it's because those are paths that just shouldn't be taken because of the long-term affects it causes, so why would any right minded and strong willed person choose to put things in their body that cause damage such as that? As for the driving teenagers are allowed their permits at 15 or so, so they are still a teenager and it's allowed of them to begin the process of driving. It's a rather lengthy process yes but it's so you learn how to drive, how to become cautious of other drivers and begin to form (hopefully) a good sense of driving skills. Swearing, well that's honestly just a personal preference, if your parents disallow it in their home it is their home, while you may be their child you are still under their roof even if you are an adult. It's mostly just respectful to not swear at least in front of those who dislike such a thing.Β
The whole career point is not so much saying "Oh you are clearly ready to dive into the ocean from the kiddie pool!" it's saying that you will now begin to have choices, and with those choices you make are solely on you once you step into adulthood. It removes the safety net of being a minor and with such it's saying to you "Now it's time for you to make your own life choices, we won't be there to hold your hand any further" Sure some people may pressure you saying "So what do you plan on doing with life" etc. But if they are a stranger, you do not have to tell them anything, or if you feel you must say something simply just say "I am still thinking of it" any remarks made just dismiss them. The point of it is, you are in control of your path, you are in control of how long it takes you to follow that path. If you cannot decide right now, so be it. You have an awful lot of time to think about it and find what truly fits you. If you aren't completely sure yet, perhaps hold off on college for a bit, reevaluate your situation so you wont end up doing courses you end up hating and possibly dropping out (I am not saying you would). There is no age limit to college, and you're still young as this post points at (I'm not old myself, turning 20 this July)Β
Very sorry if this came off as rude! It certainly wasn't intended to be, I just saw this while browsing and I figured I'd give my two cents in Β

Well I am pleased I could shed some light on it! The whole saying of "They're too young for it" is for many reasons, but one of the main reasons being when still a teenager does drugs or alcohol they are far more susceptible to issues in the future due to the body still growing and the brain and such still programming itself and forming. While yes drinking and smoking even as an older adult can and definitely will still lead to issues, it will be more slow paced than that of a young teenager or even young adult. The reason people normally cut the saying off at someone who is 18-20 is simply due to the fact that they are an adult, it is all down to them to make those choices and while even at 17 people are very well capable of reading and knowing damages of alcohol and smoking, they are still a minor and as a minor adults still reign authority due to (most of the time) being completely grown mentally (Obviously there are exceptions to this but for the majority) and the biggest part being they aren't going through hormonal changes as rapid as teens are and are able to have a more rational thinking process. There are some very intelligent teenagers out there who do have the mind of an adult way past their years, but at the same time there is still more that tend to not think so much of an entire situation, hence the high school romances that tend to plummet quicker than most adult relationships (Again to everything there is exceptions) due to a single situation that could easily be worked out calmly but it turns into a one sided deal, for example. The classic guy gets caught being kissed by another girl or vise versa. A lot of the time it will end with either the guy beating the other guy or attempting to, or a break up with no room for any explanation to the situation at hand. Also the petty drama that high school tends to brew at times.
The point of the saying is there is a lot in life, there is so much to go for and while you are still a teenager those are critical years in ones life. Not for parties, or popularity or any of that since none of that will matter outside of high school. There is a lot out there, and instead of dragging ones self down at a very early age due to drugs or alcohol, you work for your future and to work at having a brighter one. Definitely strive to do something you love and enjoy, something that will make you happy. Will it guarantee you a job in that area? Of course not, there is no guarantee on reality but it can open doors to make your life happier to be able to hold on to that chance of being allowed to live your life doing what you love to do. Sure some majors in college are far likely to not pump jobs out than others, but with this economy a job in many areas outside of main expertise is extremely difficult for everyone college degree or not. So definitely do not feel pressured, do not feel like you are being forced to do college when you do not know what you want yet, take the time to think about it. No matter what field you choose you will always have at least one person doubting that area or you, but do not let them get to you. Just continue on and work for what makes you happy and try to fulfill your life goals as best as possible. It will be hard, it will even be terrifying at some points but in the end there will be more happy and proud moments than scary ones, there are many years ahead and anything can happen but that's the joy of it! Anything can happen, and as the saying goes. Brace for the worst, hope for the best. You will be just fine ^-^ I do hope this could help a bit more.Β

You're very welcome, I always view intellectual pieces like memes a form of artwork,
and I don't appreciate it when others flat-out say that they are not when in reality,
it's one of the reason artists makes art, to say something to the public so that they can relate.

comedy is a form of art. (though I am aware that this is not very comical, my other posts are) some of us are not as artistically gifted as others but we still want to be part of the community. I find your comment rude and unnecessary, next time you see something you don't think you will like please don't click on it.
