She pillaged three cities, killing, raping, and desecrating the bodies of 80,000 innocent civilians! Then she ordered her army of at least 100,000 to attack 10,000 Roman soldiers head on without any chance to flank. She even brought women and children to watch her attempted slaughter of the Romans. Of course, her entire army was routed and then annihilated because the spectators were blocking the path to retreat.Β
It offends me that people portray her as some kind of great warrior or hero because these people are spreading misinformation and throwing history to the wind.Β

Something to note, everyone attacked and killed civilians back then. It was often part of the spoils of victory. The Northmen for a somewhat later example, based their economy off of raiding settlements and killing civilians. The Romans most definitely were not humanitarians in this regard. Boudicca's raids were reactionary to Roman incursion on Celtic governance and forcible confiscation of properties belonging to the Iceni Celts. The Romans may well have also directly humiliated Boudicca and raped her daughters in an attempt to make a point. This is generally accepted history.
And to say that she wasn't a great warrior is completely ignoring several of her victories, such as her battle against the Ninth Legion and the destruction of several major roman settlements in Roman Britain by her warriors. She led a pretty successful, if unfortunately short lived campaign. If she hadn't failed in that battle with Suetonius, Nero may have actually had Rome withdraw from Britain.
Β Also, the women and children you mentioned, they were probably intended to be the last line of defense. That was a tactic the Romans reported the Celts using in a few accounts. They were the families of the warriors she was leading. And the Romans probably slaughtered them too.

It offends me that those Latin savages are thought of as the height of civilization by some and that we do our very best in the modern world to imitate them. They had it coming.
