*gasp!* how on earth did you do those trees?! the horsie too. ^_^ he's so cute. the stripes on his back and his eyes look like lava. they have an awesome glow to them. both the background and the horse look really reeeally good. i'm sitting here looking at it...trying to figure out to make them blend better. here's an idea. you don't have to do it...because i'm sure this ones done. just something to try out in the future. perhaps making the edges lighter so the middle of the background appears darker. making it feel further off. you couldn't really make it any darker right now or you'd lose the horse somewhere in there. i think the shadow from the horse would fall the ground then towards the viewer. aaah. i think i would write more were i not so tired. perhaps i'll come back tomorrow and go "what was i...talking about?" but. for now. that's what i have to say. ^^' looks awesome. and i can't wait to see the rest of the series. *hearts and huggles*

Umm, the trees...basically, I painted a flat color, and then I used a filter to make them look grainy, and then I painted shadows and highlights on top of that. Yeah, I don't really know how to make it blend better, either. I tried, and I just couldn't get it right. So I gave up. Ah well... loves!!!

not that i should be talking with my oh so wonderful background skillz..........anyway. if you 'layer' the trees, kind of how it was in the rain tutorial....like, if you put more in the foreground...or something. so it looks more dense. yes. i am so eloquent today. anyway, heading back to school tommorow, call you then!! *loves*

Heheh. Thanks! Yeah, I think this would be a cool pet to have. You'd just have to remember to not leave flammable things lying around.... ^^

ooooo, it came out great!... the only beef i've got is that in the background the forest becomes PITCH BLACK too quickly... maybe making a second layer of darker trees back there would help?... the leaves on the trees are effin awesome though... oh, and i might give the horse a bit more of a shadow... and blur his edges a little so he's looks more like part of the picture, and not as much a seperate layer... freaking awesome pic!

The background? It looks pretty damned awesome to me... The colours are great, and the grass/ground looks awesome... I might suggest a little more texture in the bark, but too much would take the focus away from the horse, which, I must say, looks absolutely wicked. Remember my elemental armour I did forever ago? Come to think of it... I'm pretty sure that's what I was drawing the first time I really met you... that night we went and romped in the ABC parking lot... Or maybe I was just working on the story then. I dunno. But anyways, the flames look really cool, though I think they could use a slightly larger range of light and dark... Maybe... To me, it looks like there's too much really bright flame, and not enough dark around the edges... and I think the base of the flames would have more darker flame coming up into the brighter flame. I doubt anything I'm saying is making much sense at the moment. They look really cool though! It makes me miss drawing elemental stuff!!!

^^ Actually, I was looking at a pic of flames when I did this, and I think that's pretty much what it looked like. If anything, it was brightest at the bottom. *shrug* You should do more elemental stuff! It would be amazing. ^^

I guess I'm thinking more like... candles... they usually have that at the bottom. I'd love to do some more elemental stuff... in fact, I think I might re-do the armour just for shits. It was fun, if nothing else.

Wow just wow. I love the horse and it's stripes. The tail kinda looks like a wing, maybe that's what you were going for, it still looks good either way. Oh yeah, the background: I like trees, everything about them is good the lighting and such, and how the darkness works together with them. The ground seems too solid, no changes from place to place. If that was some where a horse lived the ground would have some patches that grass didn't grow as strong. The last thing is it looks too much like background. You know, like the horse isn't touching the ground at all. Even so it's really good.
*looks back up at comment* Maybe it's too long... sorry I think I got carried away.

No no, not at all. I really appreciate the comments you made. ^^ You're right, the background DOES look too much like a background. I wasn't sure what to do to make the horse fit in. Thanks for your comments! ^^
