They just flew.
However in Dead Space, Isaac splatters things with his feet.

It'a AWESOME! Although it ends abruptly and only two new species are introduced(flyers and grabbers). The other thing is gaurdians, dividers, and twitchers don't appear. But there are some intense stuff, like awesome boss battles, and branching paths.
