Have seen your work on the conceptships blog. Was impressed. Am impressed.
BTW, 'Aerospike' engines? I like the name, and the look of the rectangular nozzles, but what's the reasoning behind them?

Also, question. Is the Tallantelli Air Launch Platform (<-- That's how I define this cool looking vessel.) manned? If so, what's the capacity and the tasks the crew, if there is one, do? And give a estimate of how many tonnes that thing can carry.
π: 0 β©: 1
Abiogenisis In reply to TheZenGuy [2015-07-18 16:25:10 +0000 UTC]
Both are manned, the shuttle can carry from 1 to 5 birrin, the launcher can carry 5: two pilots, an engineer, a loadmaster and an observer.

so is aerospike engine better than regular rocket bell shaped ones?
all i know about them is the x-33 venturestar T_T
are they viable for even today?
π: 0 β©: 1
Abiogenisis In reply to LordOmegaZ [2015-03-31 12:30:38 +0000 UTC]
I believe they offer more efficiency then bell types as they automatically optimise themselves as they enter different air densities. However I think they are more complicated and expensive than bells.

Does their moon have its own moon? And I'm guessing their moons are super close in comparison to our moon. They must have some really crazy ocean tides
π: 0 β©: 1
Abiogenisis In reply to DyslexicGamer [2015-02-13 09:57:33 +0000 UTC]
I am dumping the second moon in future pics, as I found it would be unstable. Also, it looks close because it is taken as through a telephoto lens.Β

It is closer, so they have extreme tides.

Great design. Β Perhaps a bit short on fuel tanks, but i could have a oxygen recovery system like Skylon, for the aerospikes. Great balance in the composition. Inspiring again!

Yeah actually the shutters are closed here, but that big elevator at the rear of the launcher splits to reveal air breathing engines for the climb out.

I'd love to see a sketch of the orbiter mounted to its launch vehicle. Are the mounting brackets enclosed behind doors similar to the way the External Tank mount points were on the Space Shuttle Orbiter?
π: 1 β©: 1
Abiogenisis In reply to burandotorg [2014-05-25 13:51:25 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, the mounting systems on the orbiter close flush to provide a single re-entry surface.

I've been imagining that in orbit many of the Birrin might experience S.A.S.
This means that it wouldn't always be enjoyable for them to be in a zero-g environment.
The technology of Birrin is so fascinating; alien, but not so different from ours!
And as always, great work Alex! Β
