Description My third oilpainting shows a scene from the Musical Phantom of the Opera. Christine DaaΓ© in the role of Amnita in the Phantoms Opera "Don Joan Triumphant".
The original is a photo from the Hamburg Production with Colby Thomas in the role of Christine.

Unfortunatelly, the sashes were driving me mad, so i did not try to ad the black stiching on the dress....
Hope you like it anyway!

Best wishes!

Ack. I'm so jealous of you. I can't paint at all (save Disney-like cartoons). Your stuff makes me wish I could!

Even without the embroidery on the skirt layers, they are still phenomenally executed. Same with the bodice and the sleeve of the dress. The gathering, the shading, it all looks so very real. The one thing I would like to see a little more definition on is the hair; it looks a little flat.

Overall truly something to be proud of!

Ok. I can't decide if I hate you, or love you. Heck, how much are you good at painting?!
Ok, now I'm calm again... so, the painting... XD simply GORGEOUS! I love it so much, even if I hate Chris, it is simply too beautiful! The expression is perfect, I can imagine the moment of intense emotion of that turning the head... the eyes that begin to look back, and the arms that continue to stay there, instead of moving.
I like the hair too, of course, done in a fantastic way.
And than the dress. All those shadows make it almost perfect (perfection is not of this world, let's remember it...), and the sashes, even if they were driving you mad, turned out really beautiful. I can almost see the attention you paid to paint all of them... and the sleeve! I like so much the way you painted it, especially the black lace!

Well, I haven't seen the show yet (damned Italy, here there is NOTHING of the Phantom, neither the book -_-) but I can imagine how much it is wonderful, and be sure I will remember this image while I'll be looking at them playing the Don Juan!

Now, I can simply add that I LOVE this painting, and that to add it to my favorite is not enough. Compliments!!

oh dear, please don't hate me!! ^^Β°

I really don't know what to say other than Thank you, thank you, thank you ever so much!!!

I'm so happy that you like my work and that you always take your time to comment so detaildly!

I'll have to hand the compliment for the pose/scene over to the Hamburg cast back in 2000... They had a fantastic cast and a super picture book in which I found this image. I loved it so much that i had to paint it So I'm very happy I managed to capture it well enough...

Italy has no Phantom Production? aaww, what a shame!! Live it's sooo much better than the movie. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get a chance to see it very soon Maybe a trip to London and see the original production?

Again: thank you ever so much!

Relax, I was kidding you... xD

You're absolutely welcome, you deserve my detailed comments really much! I love your works

I'm glad you've been so lucky to see such a cast! Yes, be sure you captured the moment in a fantastic way

Yeah, shame is too little... this is one of the things I hate of my country and I hardly ever meet anyone who actually knows anything about him, his story, his book, even the musical! I mean, that musical has been played around all the world, even in such far away places like Australia and not here!! Even if we are so near!!! We suck -_-
But be sure I will go to London!! It is my greatest dream since February, when I knew the Phantom for the first time I will go there and assault Her Majesty’s!! *___*

You're very welcome again

Do you have any musicals in italy or is it just phantom that has never been over? Would be a shame though But i think apart from USA and UK Germany has the biggest Musical industry and we only have approx 10-12 big productions... Sounds much but compared to broadway and west end that's laughable

How did you get to know phantom? Leroux? the movie??

Keyra93 In reply to 666eternity [2010-06-08 21:35:42 +0000 UTC]

Yes, there are other plays. For example, one month ago there was Cats *_* but I didn't manage to see it
But not the Phantom. Sigh.
And so I envy you so much about your country's Musical Industry! You're very lucky, indeed

Oh yeah, how I found this story is a story itself xD I mean, it really was by chance: one day I was at a friend's home, and we were watching Scary Movie. I was so much horrified by this terrible film, that I ordered my friend to change it... and so, since she had in the same dvd other movies, after that there was The Phantom. I'd heard something about it before, but veeeeery little, and I didn't actually think it was beautiful... but in that moment, ANYTHING was better than Scary Movie so I discovered the 2004 movie version. I fell in love with that theater and those songs... And Internet made the rest

Nadine, I saw Phantom last week, and during 'ast the Point of No Return,' all I could think of was this drawing. You captures this costume superbly. And in looking at it now, I noticed the perspective from the first time; she's facing the audience. Very cool.

666eternity In reply to Moundfreek [2009-03-30 17:32:58 +0000 UTC]

OMG, you were in the show and thought of my painting?!?! This is such a huge compliment!! Thank you ever so much

and thanks for noticing the perspective! In the original of the booklet of the Hambug Produktion the Phantom actually stands behind Christine (which is why she glances back over her shoulder) and the Viewer actually is looking over the Phantoms shoulder, at Christine and "into" the audience I love that idea! great THANKS again for noticing!

But lets come to the most important thing: how was the show! did you like the cast???? (If I may ask...)

Absolutely loved it! Cast was amazing (guy playing Phantom is married to Kathy Voytko, small world)! I'd never seen the show before, and it was a real treat. I simply ADORE the opening, when the opera house turns from delapidated to its glorious former self.

you'd never seen the show before?? ohhh so this was yur first time, how amazing I think seeing the show live is so much better than the film because (especially with good actors) you can actually LIVE the story ohhh i just adore this musical!! ^^ And yes; the overture with the chandelier is the BEST!! *sigh*
glad you liked it, too!!!!!

Oh, I agree! I rushed downtown to buy the original Broadway soundtrack of ALW's Phantom the day it was released in the US, way back in the 80's...and listened to it on my tiny cassette player, on the drive home, and nearly drove off the road, I was so excited by the music...with every new scene thrilling me in new ways...and the music to Don Juan Triumphant almost made me pass out, it was so exciting!

Of course, I was a lot younger then...I'm not so prone to "almost pass out" over music nowadays--but that's the sort of thing you never, ever forget! (And I've still got a big soft spot for the musical--especially that scene! )

I just like that your treatment of it is unexpected--not the typical full frontal view--but with the shadow and light creating the mood, and capturing the drama. Really makes it stand out!

I completely understand how you must have felt back then. I fell in love with the show and the music now 8 years ago

thank you so much for your compliment!! the programm of the hamburg production contains fantastic photos such as the one I chose for this picture! they must have chosen a photographer with VERY good feeling for the show

Athansor In reply to 666eternity [2008-01-02 16:27:02 +0000 UTC]

It's always nice to hear from people who loved the show before the movie! I actually go back even farther than that with PotO...as I remember when they showed the American (possibly world?) premiere of the more rock and roll concept video of the theme song, iwith Sarah Brightman and--oh, I think it was Steve somebody--on Entertainment Tonight. I used to have a cheap little cassette recorder that I'd hold up to my grammma's tv, to record things that were interesting to me--and I raced for my recorder, and recorded most of the song, and then spent the next few years desperately awaiting the release of the full album. I had NO idea it was going to be so big...but I knew I was crazy about it!

And theatre photography is a very wonderful photographic specialization--one which most photographers don't really do well. That the Hamburg production had such a good one is fantasti! (And luck you, eh, for having it to refer to! )

wow, so you were one of the very first fans!? cooool

I agree with you. so good to know, that there are still people who fell in love without the movie ^^ Actually, I don't really like the movie version but that might be because of the hideous german synchronisation

I was thirteen when i wouldn't stop getting on my mum's nerves with my wish for seeing a musical. At that time buddy holly, cats and poto were running in hamburg (where we used to live back then), so my mum chose poto as a xmas present That's how I came to own the hamburg programm
I bet theatre photography is a difficult specialization. But e.g. i really like the London leaflets "Most haunting musical" which i used for my first oilpainting Red Death-Phantom of the Opera. I think it's one of the best poto slogans *G*

Ok, I forgot this one . It is definitely the best Poto-painting without the phantom . I mean "The Red Death" does "only" win my personal contest, because it's a painting of him.
But this one is also awesome!!!! Thank God the sashes didn't drive you too mad! It was worth the trouble!
