Hey mate, I've been seeing you around giving constructive and helpful comments all over the place and I just wanted to stop by to tell you that you're awesome and I know everyone in the lit community is honored to have you amongst us.

Thank you.

Thanks so much!  I haven't been around much lately, but it's nice to be complimented on this matter.  To me, it's really the community effort that makes DeviantArt such a good place for artists.  The process of giving and receiving critique has greatly improved my writing, and I'm incredibly grateful.  I only hope I can do the same for others.

I think you have more than accomplished that hope, but I'm glad that - even with your accomplishment - you've still decided to continue to grace the Lit community.

Best of luck to you in all your future endeavors, good sir.

Yes, that collection is for pieces that I might possibly critique for theWrittenRevolution .

Engineering is smarts but also a lot of hard work and dedication.  Most of the time, people drop out of it because they find that they don't actually like it.
I have seen people graduate who aren't very smart, but really enjoy engineering.

In short, if you enjoy something, you can probably get past other obstacles that are keeping you from doing it.

Your group has an interesting concept, but I don't think you'll be able to manage giving critique to each work before it is approved.

Here's why...

Let's say your group starts with a solid team of 5 administrators.  Also say that there are 50 users submitting work.  If each member submits one piece per week, it might seem manageable:  each admin will need to add their critique on about five pieces.  However, if each member submits two in a week, that number doubles to 10 per week, and continues in that fashion when the number of members increases.

In an equation,

(critiques per week per admin) = (# users) * (# submissions per week) / (# admins)

It's easy for users to submit more work, and it's also easy to lose admins and difficult to get new ones.  I think you should either put a limit on how many submissions can be made, or a limit on how many your group will critique (keep in mind that picking which ones to do also takes a significant amount of time).

If you want your group to be big, consider what happens to your workflow when the number of members passes 1,000 or even 10,000.

Anyway, this is my speculation; it is up to you what to do about it.  I take a lot of time when I do critique; about an hour to three hours on a single piece.  It actually takes a lot of time to write quality critique that will really help someone improve.  If your admins are rushing around to critique every piece, can they really afford to write quality reviews?

unenglishable In reply to RoseScarlet [2013-02-26 05:08:52 +0000 UTC]

Well, if you really think it would be helpful...

I'm fine with just a few watchers though... It may defeat the purpose of writing poetry if I'm playing to an audience though.
