The strip shows a range of greys from pure black to pure white. You should be able to see a clear difference between each shade of grey, ranging from pure black (left) and pure white (right).
Gray Ramp
Along the top of the strips are alternate patches of black and dark grey. If it looks solid black to you (look very carefully), your monitor's brightness setting is too low. Increase it until you can -just- perceive the difference between the grey and the black squares.

DDs seem to be chosen rather randomly and by occasion or feelings, than by quality. Also dA doesn't seem to check them even a tiny bit for potential art theft. Some months ago, there was a DD wich was very shortly after proven to be a theft from some news articels. The photo was about one of the floods in India or so, that makes it even more sad. The thief didn't accidentally mistake dA for photobucket (like many others) but obviously knew what he did, since he put his own copyright on it.

Well I just tried to be fair, I know that someone is chosen for a DD and there's neither the possibility to reject it, in the case the author should think he doesn't deserve it.
However, IMHO, there are more worse DD, and more less honest people than you!
P.s. I have some other halo in my "drawer"
