Thank you for your kind words, I consider myself a beginner in digital work, so it sure is an inspirational comment And seeing your art, I'd say you should be able to paint like that, prolly better as well.
The key I've found in general is to take your time with a piece, 1 hour for example is short. I've made pieces varying from 2 hours to 14 hours and even for lots of artist that's short. And one tip, you maybe already know, but I had to found it out the hard way lol. Is to work with a big resolution, so you can add more detail and everything looks more sharp. For example, that portrait of mine, the original resolution is 2000 x 2800.
And if you knew all this, just disregard I said it

Thanks! I consider myself very much a beginner as well. I really like your style, though, and I wish mine was similar.
I whole-heartedly agree with your findings. I tend to be a bit impatient though.... I've been trying to make them big when my RAM allows, but that's off and on. My biggest problem at the moment is definitely patience.
It's always good to hear things over and over, especially from contemporaries.

haha, I know all about impatient, I've drawn since I was a kid(gaps of years between them), usually doodles, but always quite short. Max I would spent on a drawing was 30 mins. And when in one of my drawing moods I often got frustrated why I didn't improve much.
I had 3 major problems and when I addressed those I started improving with the speed of light lol. First was I never used references, I always tried to draw out of the mind, without knowing how something actually looked. Second were the shadows, as how to shade and where the light falls etc, to make smooth transitions of color value.
And third, like I said before, "time", once I started passing the 1 hour mark I noticed big improvements in things I did.
Sorry for the long text, almost done lol.
In my gallery, especially the 2007 portraits I did, I can just see the improvements what those points did for me. First try that year [link] (yes you can laugh )
[link] (halfway about)
[link] (last I did, and the last till this digital one) Yes, I haven't done any portraits since 2007, shame on me lol.
But I'm getting really serious now, as I'm going for 3d modeling (for commercial use), which is still a long way. But graphics is also a big part of it.
Who knows, maybe we can do some collaborations in the future And as you've prolly figured it out, I talk a lot lol.

Yeah, I have a pretty similar art experience. I have always drawn since I was a kid. It was all paper and ink or pencil though. I could sit for a long time and do that, especially in the last few years. I would draw in class, in church, waiting for friends, whereveer I could. The problem came when I transitioned into digital. It took so much time to set up that I'd only get a half hour in before I had to be done. I think what I'll start doing is drawing on paper, then scanning the line drawings and transitioning that way. Might help.
I also have very slight issues with color, as I am color blind. But it doesn't hinder me THAT much.
I thought about getting serious about it, and I even did a year of Graphic Design in college, but I ended up deciding I liked other things better.
I'd certainly like to collab sometime! It'd be fun! And don't worry about talking too much, it's nice to have good conversations.

You certainly are great with ink, love what you did.
I watched quite some video's on youtube for example of people who draw/paint digitally, just to get some tips on basics. Well color blind could give some interesting results when you paint things But I can imagine it can be quite annoying at times
One thing with painting digitally, no matter which program, the color picker is your biggest friend. Unless you work with a set color palette. The color picker allows you to make smoother color blender. Be it in RGB color, or just plain black/white.
And of course layers, so many different uses for them, like the overlay, multiplay settings etc
It sure is nice to have good conversations And great you're interested in a collab!
