Same here - I like that there are no awkward silences, and you can always rewrite your comment if you don't like how it came out. The only problem is that people sometimes misread your emotions unless you use a lot of smiley faces...

I haven't been on dA very long, so I haven't had much experience with that. On other sites, it's the same thing though. People tend to take compliments much better than criticism.... But without criticism, how can you improve your artwork?

I feel the same way. I was surprised to find that many people on this site do not like criticism at all - they would rather have comments like "that's awesome" than advice. Personally, I appreciate criticism more than compliments since criticism takes more thought and is a lot more helpful to me. I joined dA to improve myself, so I will take any help I can get...

Same here. I appreciate any criticism as long as someone's not being rude. But for artists who don't like criticism... I feel like the only thing I can say is "that's amazing". I honestly appreciate someone telling me that my work is brilliant or fabulous or whatever, but I would appreciate people telling me what I can improve more. Being told what you're good at over and over again is kind of redundant... I also would like it if people suggested to me things that I could try, like a new technique or something...

It can be hard to come up with a "new" compliment, so they do get pretty repetitive. Of course it's nice of people to compliment my work, but it doesn't help me improve in the same way as critique. New suggestions are always good as well, and much better than just a one-phrase comment (:
