Just wanted to let you know there is nothing"wrong with me". Heres a little back story for you:
Both of my bettas are from walmart, Sushi (the one in the jar) was half dead when I got him. Since being in his new home for over half a year he has made numerous bubble nests, his colors have brightened 10 fold (the horrid lighting in my room along with my poor camera doesnt show that), he is actually active for most of the day, eats like a pig no matter how many food pellets I break up for him because he cant eat whole ones, and without fail swims up to look at me whenever I walk into the room.
Soba is in the tank he is because he was in a bigger one but was very inactive and has done nothing but swim and play in his rock since the switch last night. He was probably not used to having so much space provided he grew up in a WALMART cup. He has a gray patch under his mouth that was there when I got him and I thought he was close to dead.
These are not high bred fish who have lived in big fancy expensive aquariums their entire lives. They were dying on a shelf in a walmart super center and are much more active and healthy since I brought them home.
I have had bettas literally since I was 3 and have had them live for YEARS in these conditions or at least similar ones. My first betta lived for about FIVE years and even let me physically pet him without having a panic attack and swimming away from my touch.
I have nursed dying bettas from pet stores and walmarts back to happy swimming friends for most of my life.
My mother is allergic to pets with fur so bettas are really they only pets ive ever had and I care for each of them and cater as best I can to their needs. I am not able to spend hundreds of dollars nor do I have the space to have bettas who were bred and raised in high end conditions.
This is not a matter of "if theyre alive then theyre happy" to me. You do not know where every betta comes from so assuming me or anyone who has their bettas in conditions like mine are downgrading the conditions that they were in is kind of rude.
I know they conditions they SHOULD be kept in. Ive done homework on bettas. But every one I get is used to not having anything bigger than a solo cup full of water and a few pellets while being surrounded by 5 or 6 dead friends in their cups. They act normally, are well fed, have clean conditioned water, and are loved, so there is no reason to assume I am a monster who thinks of them as decorations.
Thank.

your trying so hard to justify your set up to me but i'm not buying it.
coming from walmart has nothing to do with how to care for betta.
it does not change their nature and it is not like these fish are built their like some product.
they order them in from Florida hatcheries.
and it is not physically impossible for these fish to "grow up in a WALMART cup".
they are not born in cups.
they are not raised in cups.
nature does not provide them cups.
these fish are born in hatcheries where they start out with on parent fish in a smaller tank
and are then moved to a lager grow out tank TO GROW. they need that space, just because they are sold in cups,
do not think you are being gracious by providing a slightly larger cup.
i guarantee your tiny tank did not save your "half dead" betta. better water quality did. thats it.
these small environments lack stimulation. want proof? what does you fish do when your not there?
it may swim for a bit but i'll bet it mostly just goes and lays down. it gets excited to see you because you are the only stimuli IN ITS LIFE.
it eats like a pig because it has nothing else to look forward to. and they make bubble nests for two reasons, mating preparation, and shear boredom.((and they are smart (enough to know how much "territory" raising they fry requires)
i breed betta. my aunt's family own a betta shop in Thailand. i have traveled there three times.
we even had our betta compete in show.
you can even catch wild betta out in the marshes right behind the house.
now. i am not telling you this to hurt your pride.
i am telling you this because i know what i am talking about .
i have seen it time, and time again.
if you continue to keep your fish in these small containers like ornaments instead of animals
something WILL go wrong eventually and you WILL KILL YOU PET.
i'm not saying you need huge aquariums i'm just saying they need to be treated like the beautiful tropical fish they are.

to find the liquid fertilizer at www.tricker.com you have to click on the 'oxygenating pond plants' icon on the left side menu,
just scroll down the plants selection to the bottom.
it's called 'green-ease and grow'
your plant's will 'boom' with that stuff

your welcome, i liked how you kinda grouped off your darker shaded regions.
if this was a colored piece you could use some really trippy color combinations with that technique
