OK, here it is! Thanks for letting me use the dAblack name!
By the way, do you know how to code for the notes center?

hkk In reply to GyroxOpex [2010-06-27 04:12:01 +0000 UTC]
that looks great!
And well, the notes center is enclosed in a div#notes.messages, so that should really not be a problem. If you have more specific questions, feel free to ask me further. you can also send me a note at any time ^^

Thanks!
The div#notes.messages-does that recolor the background too? Or is there something else that I need to change?

you can use the Firebug extension to view the HTML code of a page more comfortably than in the source viewer, and with it you can also make live changes to how a page looks to you (and only you, not others; the changes are only local). With that, you can try out how different CSS properties will look; it will also let you find out which element's background you have to change for the notes center to go black

Hey, I've been messing around, and I can't get the notes center to be black. Could you play around in Firebug and see which ones are most likely to affect it?

I love the site style , thanks again. There is only one minor flaw in it, the deviantART logo next to the search bar at the top is covered almost halfway by the search bar. But other than that its amazing,

thats only a temporary error cause theyre having the birthday event at the moment. it should go back to normal once the special logo is gone (maybe in about a week or so) ^^

Oh ok, then this is an amazing job, ive always wanted to skin websites and skins for firefox but people tell me I need an addon called GID Mod or something like that, I cant remember exactly, but when I download it, it tells me it is not compatible with 3.5.2.

Nah, you dont need a special extension just to do skinning. What you do need is knowledge of CSS, HTML, and (for Firefox skins) Javascript. And a text editor (windows's notepad would work, but honestly, you dont wanna use that. get a better edtior from the internet. i myself use Notepad++ )
There there are a number of extensions that will help you a lot with development. Stylish, for one, which allows you to apply custom CSS to websites (but you have that already ). Web development extensions like Firebug, DOM Inspector (DOMi), Web Developer Toolbar or Aardvark will help you find the right classes and ids for the elements you want to style.
If you want to skin Firefox, you will want a tutorial for that (I'm sure google will be helpful in that), and the extension called Chrome List, which will help you explore the insides of skins. I'm not into skinning (for Firefox) myself, but what i can tell you is that ever window of firefox is basically just a webpage (more precisely, they're a special kind of XML page called XUL), which means you can view within your normal browsing window. You can try what i mean by entering chrome://browser/content/browser.xul in the toolbar (it will display the main window of Firefox, inside Firefox ) -- Chrome List will help you locate these different XUL files.
Also, forums and chats will help you a lot during development. If you work with Stylish a lot, you won't get around the Userstyles.org forums, where there are always helpful people (among them the creator of Stylish himself). Then there's the chat rooms, probly you can find them on any major IRC network, but I usually hang around on freenode (irc.freenode.net). They have channels for everything: #css, #html, #javascript; whatever you need. im sure they also have rooms for firefox skin development (and also, google and the Mozilla Developer Center (MDC) will give you good starting points for that)
Well, I hope I could help you somewhat ^^

Alright thanks, and yeah thats what I was thinking of, DOM Inspector, every time I download it from [link] it says it is not compatible with Firefox 3.5.2 so I didn't know of any other tools for it, so thanks for telling me . One of the main reasons I want to skin firefox is because I saw a screen shot of an amazing theme, I have posted it on userstyles.org, mozillazine.com but nobody has responded and it has been weeks. The theme is amazing but I just want a skinner to look at it and maybe tell me how he did it. Maybe you could take a look at the screen shot, and just be able to tell me how he did it. You don't have to, but I will include the link to the screen shot anyways, [link]
If you zoom in on the actual firefox theme, not the web page, you can see that all the buttons and book marks look like they are raised up, and they have an outlining around them, if you look at your current theme there is nothing around the buttons unless you put your curser on top of it. I really want to replicate that theme but no one has ever helped. If you could take a look it would be highly appreciated, thanks again.

i dont know how much you are into CSS, but in CSS an element can generally have three states: normal, hover (mouse cursor above it) and active (mouse button held down) (there are some more, but these are the most important ones for this scenario). Firefox helps you in that it gives disabled buttons a special class, so you can pick them out. Now, depending on what effect exactly you want to achieve, you can either use background images (one for each of the four states, where disabled is the fourth); however, then you will have to look out for special buttons and for special modes of the tool bar (like big/small buttons, text only etc).
The other way is using the CSS border property (and mozilla's derivates); looking at this page: [link] you will find a number of properties that will let you style the borders of elements (e.g. -moz-border-radius or -moz-top-color). I'm not sure but i seem to remember that since either 3.0 or 3.5 Firefox enabled the skinning of the scroll bars, so there should be something on the around the MDC as well.
Also, browse around deviantART's and Amo's (addons.mozilla.org) Firefox Skin directories until you ind any skin that has buttons like that (ive seen more of those than just the one you posted). Download it, and look at the contained files (if you dont know how to extract the files from the skin, ask google; its really easy), then check out the appropriate CSS files ^^
Aaaaaaand now im off to work

Thanks for the visit. I remember this page. I was looking at Gallery CSS then I saw yours for a whole Deviant page? I didn't know you could do that.
Anyway hope there was something you liked on my page.

yea, i especially like your journal layout ^^
and i actually only went to your page cause i saw you had visited mine xD
and yes, you can apply custom CSS to the whole deviantART page, though it is not a feature of dA itself. There is an extension for Firefox that lets you apply custom CSS to any page. more info is in the description of the deviation of my black style, which you can find on my user page
thanks for stopping by and i hope you like the skin
