BTW, I retired from my regular 8-5 weekly clerical job at the end of 2014, and my wife and I are in the process of buying and moving to a much larger house, out in the country, @ 50 miles north of our current home in Austin, Texas USA. It is almost twice as large as our current home, and it will have seperate, large studio spaces for each of us to use (she is also an artist and photographer). With luck, we will be moved in by the end of May, and I'll finally be able to devote myself full-time to my art, doing new paintings and small murals of whales and dolphins and the glories of the Universe.

You're very welcome. I'm very picky about who I chose to put in my faves; especially since there's so much bad cetacean art on DA. However, I also love to share the mystical side of cetaceans and their consciousness, which you bring out in your work, so I had to share that with others. In fact, I very much love most of your work; it reflects a passion for life and the mysteries of the Universe, which is something I try to do, as well...I just approach it in a slightly different way.
I really haven't talked about this too much here on DA, mainly because it's something that I've just recently been doing in an active way, but when I start to draw or paint, I ask the whale and dolphin and ocean spirits to come in and guide my work; to make sure that I am bringing in their energies and thereby transforming the images into portals for raising consciousness and for healing the oceans and the planet. It has now reached the point where the cetaceans themselves are sending me images that they want me to paint, and I'm about to post a new one, that I finished back in March, that they specifically asked me to paint over a year ago.

Thank you. It's taken me years to get this good (I'm 59 and been doing this kind of art since I was 18). So keep doodling and practicing; you'll get there.
BTW, I noticed that you liked my Star Trek art. Well, here's a piece of trivia for you. Did you know that there were dolphins as part of the crew on the Enterprise-D on "Star Trek-The Next Generation"? Although they never showed them, the dolphins were briefly mentioned in one episode, and one of the main designers for the show, Rick Sternbach, photographs, and sometimes paints cetaceans, as a hobby, and it was his idea to make them part of the crew, due to there expertise in three-dimensional navigation.

Has there ever been a photograph of an albino Sperm Whale?

Yes. I have several in my collection. Plus there have been sightings off the Azores for over 15 years, starting with photos taken of an albino calf by Flip Nicklin and featured in National Geographic back in the 1990s; since reprinted in numerous whale books and all over the Internet. Just Google white sperm whale and you'll find photos and even video of this calf on-line.

I was wondering if you could verify this as a sperm whale breach. They claim it is a sperm whale breach, but to me, it looks like a pygmy sperm whale. I was hoping you could tell. It is about 3/4 of the way down the page: [link]

Yes, it's a sperm whale. It's just about to crash back into the water near the end of the breach. Don't forget that pygmy and dwarf sperm whales have a dorsal fin, like a dolphin (regular sperm whales have a dorsal hump), plus a much sharper, more pointed head than a regular sperm whale. BTW, I have literally thousands of photos of sperm whales I have gathered from the Internet over the years, including quite a few breaching shots. If you go to [link] you'll see a shot of a breaching sperm whale that completely clears the water. Simply amazing!

Well, I'm fairly sure that breaching shot where it clears the water is a calf, judging by the size of the head and the shape/size of the mouth, so at most it probably weighs @ 3-4 tons (they weigh @ 1 ton and are 12-13 feet long at birth). Still a pretty amazing shot.

~dolphinguy, you obviously know a lot abouut sperm whales, so, I was wondering if you knew if I can watch sperm or blue whales anywhere off the coast of British Columbia Canada or NewFoundland/Labrador/Nova Scotia Canada? I have looked at a lot of pictures and now I really want to see one in it's natural habitat in the ocean. So, I was just wondering if you knew. Thank you. I was also wondering, have you seen a sperm whale in person in the wild and if so, what was it like?

Here are a couple of links for whale watching off Newfoundland and Labrador, where they occasionally see sperm whales, and even less often, blue whales. Keep in mind that sperm whales are deep water animals, and are not found that close to the coast, so to see one you have to go on a boat that is setting out specifically to look for them, and they have to go out for several miles, into very deep water, to even have a chance of finding one. That's why the best places in the world to watch sperm whales are off the coasts of islands which are the tops of deep water mountains, such as the Azores, or the Galapagos, or New Zealand. Although I have never had the chance to go whale watching, and therefor have never seen any kind of whale in the wild (I live in central Texas USA, some 250 miles from the nearest ocean, and there aren't any whale watching boats from any Texas Gulf Coastal ports), I have known numerous people over the years who have gone whale watching, and from what I have heard/read, it's a hit-or-miss affair. You might go out all day and not see a single whale, or you might have a whole pod of whales swimming and playing around your boat for hours on end, or any variation in between.

Operation Divine Wind has been a success, the Japanese serial killers have tucked their tail between their legs and heads back to Japan in shame for the second straight year. The M/Y Bob Barker found the cetacean death star (Nisshan Maru) on the 1st of march and was on the slipway of the most evil ship on the ocean on the 5th of march, today is the 8th and the whalers have turned and have run away from the Sea Shepherds. The Barker followed the Nisshan out of the sancuary to ensure that they were leaving, and they are. The Sea Shepherds have won 2011-12, and, quite possibly, the war. Looks like I may not get to throw crap on the deck of the Nishan Maru after all. But the whales are safe, for now. YES! YES! YES! YES!
