all I can tell you is that to do the stuff you love, talent matters just as much as a BIG doze of hard work and stubbornness! it's normal that people tell you to do something else, or 'get a real job' or REALLY struggle the first few years even after you first become a pro (until you get a 'reputation'), BUT if you can weather the storm, it's definitely all worth it... many talented artist just give up too soon sometimes.
