I am a writer of the unreal, a drawer of the whimsical and forever at battle with my own estimation of my worth and talent; grasping frantically at straws and strings and loose threads, never able to hold onto one long enough to satisfy myself, to wrap around and anchor. I am devouringly destructive, boilingly creative, diamond-faceted and Tiffany-glass-fragile. The basic idea is Star Trek meets Armageddon meets Lost In Space. The survivors of a fledgling Martian colony that is severely damaged after an asteriod destroys Earth are rescued by an alien named Kolab who had come to our system to warn us of an alien race called the Shi'Rah'Ka. While at first reading this sentence may appear harsh (and certainly the vampire's sardonic, sharp voice hardly increased the apparent "kindness" of his statement), this was actually Ted-speak for Hey, buddy, are you okay?Β

Geier, who had long since learned to interpret the idiosyncracies of the Theodorian dialect, merely shrugged and leaned himself up against the wall next to his friend.
While giving the appearance of insouciance, his shoulders were hiked just a little too high to be at ease, and his fingers were wrapped tight around his biceps. The slim heel of his boot ground nervously against the ground, though he tried to disguise it as filling in a little depression in the ground next to his foot.
"Vat you mean, Teddy? I'm vine."

There were few people in the world that the farmer counted as friends. Β Geier wasn't one of them. Β Somewhere along the way the temperamental swordsman had graduated from the "friend" category and invaded territory Theodore considered sacred. Β Geier was family. Β
"I know something's bothering you."
Despite his youthful appearance, Theodore was at heart a crotchety old man. Β When he saw his family unsettled, he would never hesitate to meddle with their affairs and force them into painful reconciliation with whatever issue faced them. Β
Now and again, though, he knew all that need be offered (at least initially) was his heartfelt concern:

Geier pouted, scuffing his pointy toes in the dirt.
"Honestly, Teddy, is nozink. I'm vine. Not vorryink about anyzink at all, I nefer vorry about anyzink," he insisted, sounding rather testy for someone who was claiming he wasn't worried at all (and, in fact, was taking his "reassurance" into the "boldfaced lie" territory).
