Actually, a couple of my answers are misleading. My last name is Erickson which, while it DOES end in "on" is nothing close to Irish; and while I do shop at Wal-Mart, it's only because they've pretty much run off the competition and there isn't really anyplace else left to shop, unless we're willing to travel 75 miles or more - EACH WAY! - which we aren't.

When I was young, my mother used to tell me I was part Irish (1/32. Does that even count?)
When I was an adult, after she died, my father mentioned that an ancestor of hers was deeded land in New York by Queen Anne. I suspect there aren't too many Irish folk out there who might have been rewarded by a British queen. Most likely they were English.
I'm certain my grandmother on her side came from German stock - my mother would always say "gesundheit" when someone sneezed.
My dad's side has at least SOME English (some indentured servants), so I'm probably more British than anything else, even if I DON'T know what a "brolly" is.

I know rather little of my roots... but I'm pretty sure that my mothers part of the family are from Gremany. We are doing some reserch and so far I have a real Don Juan in my family who lived in the 1780 or some thing like that. XD

I think many of us don't know much. I only know about the indentured servants because my father was bitten by the genealogy bug and spent several years looking up as much of his family tree as he could. Got back as far as the 1600s I think. Most of what I remember is a bit of interbreeding (some extended cousins marrying), the indentured servants, Confederate sympathizers (Grandpa's name was Jesse, one of my uncles was Lee), and arguing amongst (current) members of the Davenport family as to whether the original name was Davenport or Devenport.
Oh, and that Frank Thomas (another branch of the family) and his brothers apparently were a bit rowdy and engaged in (started?) at least one bar fight.
I forgot to mention earlier that "Meyer" was the family name of the grandmother I said was of German stock.
So, the Don Juan in your family - was that his name, or was he a womanizer?
Speaking of a real Don Juan, if you haven't read it already, RUN, don't walk, to ffn and read BldngHrtCnsrvtv's (or however she spells it) "The REAL Don Juan Triumphant." It's an absolute hoot!

Lol, barfight! XD My godmother did some reserch and it turned out she had a horse thief, a murderer and a famus teacher (who butchered chickens during class!) in her line. That's one intresting family! XD
Cool, so Meyer is a German name then! My mothers family name is "Lindholtz" and is a very typical German name.
I can't remember his name, I'm pretty sure it's not Don Juan though! XD We counted 7 children (or something like that) that he got with diffrent maids and girls in diffrent villages!
