Yeah, it makes me feel so much better knowing that I have more money to put towards college instead of my parents paying for all of it. My last internship from the summer was minimum wage so I ended up with not so much money. =/
I can imagine that it's hectic and busy. The stuff you do just takes a lot of time, and it's not fun to sacrifice some quality simply to meet the deadlines. P:Β
Dropping out? Do you not like Columbus as much as you thought you would? Or is it just super busy and stressful at the moment?

I just don't know if the school is a right fit for me. Β I am going to ride out the year and see how I feel but I would just much rather freelance this summer and see where it takes me. Β I am hoping I catch a break somewhere and figure out what I really want to do. Β The illustration class I am in is the best and probably the main reason why I am still here. Β The stress of the other classes is just rough, my Vis Lit class is bull shit lol. Β The teacher we have has never taught any other class except glass blowing so they through her in here I guess for the hell of it.

Ahh I understand that feel. I've never really been a fan of higher education, to be honest.
You honestly could probably be successful at freelance without a degree. I visited Mrs. Schriever the other day and showed her my portfolio and she said, "Honestly, this is better than the work of people who have already graduated from college with an art degree," so that would obviously apply to you as well. Maybe you could take some business classes and then start your own art business? That's a shot in the dark. I've talked to a lot of different art students with different types of art degrees and they basically say employers don't give a shit about the degree, just portfolios. But I guess it depends where you're looking to go?
That's really sucky that they just place random profs in classes. Especially a glass blowing prof in vis lit. That sounds like a huge jump. I went for a week in the spring semester... and they fucked up the scheduling for everyone. So the first day was literally all the ID kids rescheduling classes. They made it so you had the same professor for each studio, which I found unhelpful. They guy I would've had for all my classes told us, "Be prepared to spend thousands of dollars out of pocket for some projects." Nope nope nope. Plus I would have appreciated feedback from multiple professors, not just one... soooooo, that was basically the nail in the coffin among other things. He also apparently had trouble finding an ID job and said he was rolling in debt from his furniture business.
I think it's smart that you're planning on riding out the rest of the year, since you're probably about halfway done with your semester. That way you wouldn't waste the money you spent for that semester. I'm so glad I got a full refund since I got out quickly.
Whatever the choice, do what you want to do. I believe you're capable of making intelligent choices for yourself. Don't let people pressure you into doing something you don't think is worth your time. I finally learned that by dropping out and now I'm as free as a butterfly. I'm not very satisfied with my life right now, but I guess there will always be bumps in the road.Β

Thank you so much for all of your feedback. Β I have been going back and forth a lot. Β I am thinking next year taking a break from school and working like you are doing now. Β I want to save up as much money as I can before I decide on what I want to do with my life. Β I know my parents might not take it very well and I don't know how to go about telling them about it. Β I know next year I want to get an apartment with my roommate now and my boyfriend so we would probably stay in the Columbus area so I would have a lot of job and freelancing opportunities. Β
I just don't want my family to think that I am becoming a complete drop out and work a walmart for the rest of my life, because I know with art and freelancing there is a lot of opportunities out there I just need to look for it.

You're welcome. Another thing you might look into once you get a big audience online is starting a Patreon. I started one for my animation project but I haven't actually done anything with it and I don't have a large enough audience... but it's another source for income.Β
My parents didn't take my choice well either. They lied to me about it over the phone. Said they supported me 100% and that it wasn't an issue. Then I hear them talking to their friends and relatives about how 'disappointed they are in me' and how they wish I didn't drop out. My parents and Noah always joke about me dropping out. But you'd be surprised how supportive everyone else is. I told a select group of people who I cared about and they were all really nice about it.
But I'm working, I'm developing my skills, and I already know where I want to go in the fall, so what's the problem with that? haha
Getting an apartment in the city would be a good idea. I'm sure there are a lot of opportunities in the Columbus area for art.Β
Persistence is key, and it sounds like you have it. So that's the first step towards the future. If you ever come back to W.A. to visit, we should get together or something and talk. And we can both visit Mrs. Schriever together, because it's really awkward for me to go into the school by myself lmao.

I'm glad to hear that!!!
I recently bought a Cintiq and it's seriously the best investment I've ever made.Β
I find that I am able to produce animations at a faster rate than with my old tablet.Β

I gotta get me one. Β I could have if I didn't buy a Wii U but I needed something to relieve stress. Β Life's had me down lately.
