Breath of TimeThere still exists a breath of time,
A haunted thought or two;
However brief, however strange,
We once were "me and you".
We fell too fast, you fell away -
Still chasing something new;
I built a stronger, brighter heart
With thicker bark and roots.
And yet, you visited my mind,
A word, a look, a touch;
But life began and you sank in
To memory and dust.
And now I see you take her hand,
Nevermore to part;
I wish I could but understand
This feeling in my heart.
I wish that I had known you more,
I wish we'd never met;
I wish I could remember us,
I wish I could forget.
I wish you well with all my heart,
Which I've no cause to do,
But thank you for that breath of time -
I know how much I grew.
