I take that very seriously. If I ever see you on my page again thanking me for stuff I didn't mean seriously ANYWAY I'll get my ass to the united states of America and search for your street by....HAND! And then I'm gonna stand in front of your house until you come out of it and say 'What the heck are you doing there??' and I say 'WEELL, I came cuz you had the guts to thank me for fava again!!! AND I DON'T LIKE THIS!!!!'

Oh man, I try to keep it that way. You can talk of god with a smile as well instead of constantly talking about the thorns on his head.

Good way to put it! While doing errands, I sometimes pass by a church that always has something interesting to read on their outdoor bulletin board. One day I read this: "All I ask of you is to be kind to one another, how difficult is that? Jesus". I felt that summed up very nicely what Christianity means to me. It is also (in my opinion) the main reason that we are all sharing this planet together-to be kind to each other and to help each other out when one of us is in need. I know that is a simplistic answer to the age old question "What is the meaning of life? Why are we here?" but it works for me.

They've kinda specialized in those short, highly expressive phrases, no? ~D
Whenever I go to the flat of my friend who is living next to a church I see these sheets with phrases displayed there as well. And they always get me to think as well.
I've got three answers for that sense-of-life-question but it's because I've been also dealing with logotherapy and Frankls during the course of my studies.
All in all, yes, that's why we are here. To love. And that doesn't mean just our family and friends.

I just skimmed a Logotherapy web site. One of my biggest goals in life is to do something to keep myself from going crazy! I don't think one can just 'select a passion from List A or List B' to become involved in. I mean, what are the circumstances that lead to my love of taxidermy? Why is it not just a 'passing fancy? A lot of this has to do with 'involvement with others'. Do you all ever talk about Carl Jung and his views on 'synchronicity'? I have been studying that lately. I was a Psych Minor in College, and Jung was my favorite. I am definitely a more emotionally well-adjusted person since I became a Student of the Tarot. It is much more of a 'body of philosophical ideals' than a religion. There is no specific Diety to worship. It does, however, require a belief that there is a 'Divine Presence' out there. It encompasses and embraces all religious principles that are based on 'goodwill towards others'. I know that is a rather simplistic way of defining any given religious body, but I'm a simple kind of Gal. I keep thinking about Monty Python's Movie 'The meaning of Life' and 'The life of Brian'. Have you seen them? Anyhow, this is just me rambling on about "Life, the Universe, and Everything' (a book by Doug Adams that is part of the 'Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy').

I've been on the crazy side and it was a place where I don't want to go again either.
Passions develop. They grow. I don't know what was on that site^^' but the three aspects logotherapy suggests for a happy life are 1. love 2. being creative and 3. faith.
I do know a little about Jung, but we moved into different directions with him in our course; I know more about dreams and archetypes with him.
I don't mind that definition at all that it is based on the goodwill towards others. That's what we said earlier as well, the 10 commandments can be subsumed and were subsumed by Jesus in "Love one another." Any other belief which postulates that as well is absolutely welcome with me.
I've watched those movies and I like them a lot. The funniest part for me, however, is with The meaning of Life that they don't tell you at all what it is lol

I am in total agreement with those three reasons. I was surprised to see 'creative'. It seems to me that in some religious sects (orders?) only pro-creativity is encouraged! Now I have to go look up the word 'subsumed'...

Frankl, and other Christian theologists, say that by creating we do not equal but can resemble god, we can touch the divine in ourselves by using the ability to create. And that can be part of that sense as well.
fat ^^'
I thought 'subsumed' was an English word...I had it in my head for what I wanted to say and was unsure whether it IS a word and checked with my translator and it said it is.
It probably isn't very common then. I don't know from where that came from. But apparently, I've used it once or heard it somewhere already..

I did look it up. I had a pretty good idea of what it meant just by the context in which it was spoken. It must share Latin roots with the word 'consumed'?

{This is me-I just realized that I put this comment to you in the wrong place. This reply is supposed to be a comment on your journal article about music!} I have pondered this question for a while, and here is how I choose to answer it. I'll share with you some of the songs I sing along to when I wish to sing my praises to the Divine. Diana Ross's 'Stoned Love': "And to the man upon whose shoulders the world must depend, I pray for Peace and Love, Amen". Fleetwood Mac's 'Crystal': Do you always trust your first initial feeling? Special knowledge holds truth, bears believing. I turned around, and the water was closing all around me, like a glove. Like the Love that had finally, finally found me . Then I knew, in the crystaline knowledge of you." Elvis Presley (this is one of only a few of his songs that I like) "I can Dream": "But as long as a man has the strength to dream, he can redeem his soul and life." Tommy James and the Shondell's 'Crystal Blue Persuasion': "Maybe tomorrow when he looks down, on every green field, every town, all of his children, every nation. There will be peace and good, brotherhood, crystal blue persuasion. Remember now, I'm old! And, at this time of the year, I cannot get enough of the old hymns I used to sing with my family and congregation on Christmas Eve (I was brought up in a very Lutheran household). I know it shouldn't matter where we worship, but our Church was absolutely Magical on Christmas Eve! My Father, who was a Deacon, would wear his vestments (dalmatic) and I was so proud of him!

No worries, you told me where it should go
I'm going to look these songs up!
I'm interested in how people perceive music, how they 'use' it and what they see in it.
Traditions and memories are healing at any age, not just when you're old
I'm sad if I cannot celebrate Christmas or even birthdays the way we have always done it. It is something special then.
Our priest rather wears large capes, similar, but not entirely the same. But geez, if your father wore them it must have been breathtaking for you!
