lol, yeah, I was in the same boat. It was a bit treacherous there (I was about three miles into a five mile trek along the railroad tracks near where I love when I found it) what with the melting snow and odd footing but it was cool. I can give you a short description of that area, if you like; I thought I had a picture from up there to upload in its place.. but apparently not.

lol, I'll take that as a go sign, then. Well.. that ladder was situated against the tree at the bottom of a shallow gully. On either side of it the earth rises in a bowl-shape that, as you follow it out, tapers off in a clear path. That day, from the top, I saw one solitary tree dominating the 'exit' from there and a few sparse saplings behind it. Being as late in January as it was there were no leaves on them (but plenty on the ground) so I was able to see beyond them to a clear-cut corn field. Beyond that was the horizon line, sunny in the west and cloudy with a chance of snow in the east. Somewhere beyond that is a highway (I could faintly hear the cars from there) but it was mostly just so much isolation; the kind of quiet that you can't find anywhere else, you know?

Yes, I've been to quiet places like that. Hiking near Mammoth Cave, and other places. The night skies are lite with stars rather than the light pollution you get in the city. Solitary but no sense of loneliness about it.

I'm careful of spiders, but not as afraid as I used to be. It bothers me to think that people hurt them because they are afraid of them.
