im at joanns but this specific location SUCKS ASS and i dont like 98% of my coworkers (one has become my new bff here) and its so busy cuz this is the only joanns for hours away and we have SCAD here so all the fashion students cause a ruckus and I JUST WANNA BE A FREELANCE ARTIST UGHHHHHH

PipThePirate In reply to Kamachu [2016-11-08 18:56:07 +0000 UTC]
That's fucking rough, fashion students can be the worst when they're stressed. Not surprising the staff sucks, though I'm basing that off my knowledge of Sarasota Joanns where the staff is mostly ancient impatient women. Hopefully school will give you a break from retail hell. I feel you on the freelance thing, I'm going into television writing and it's about as equally hard to get into. Do you mostly do manga type stuff, or do you do things like animation?

Kamachu In reply to PipThePirate [2016-11-08 20:02:00 +0000 UTC]
The Joanns in venice was so so nice and i loved working there and i THOUGHT itd be the same here but i was so soooo wrong omg and I am majoring in sequential art and yes I do very much enjoy my manga style BUT i have branched out and animation isnt really my concentration but i still do illustration work, even for merchandise to be sold at cons. Ill be starting a webcomic soon with big plans so ill let you know to read it in coming future~

PipThePirate In reply to Kamachu [2016-11-10 18:09:28 +0000 UTC]
That's awesome! I'm looking forward to reading it. I've actually been developing my comic book for the last two years off and on, though I don't have any big plans for it. School had been stressing me out and I didn't want it to kill any of my artistic drive, so I started developing the comic so that I would have something fun to work on that would have no deadline or expectation, meaning, if I decided I suddenly didn't feel like doing it anymore I could just stop if I wanted, no pressure. So I've starting getting into online story telling (both written and animation) because of that lately, since it tends to have new story structures and pacing that don't exist in linear television and mainstream/print comics. Also, do you still have my number? When you start releasing issues it'd be better to text me since I forget to check dA constantly.

Thanks! Mine is 941-536-7025 just in case you don't have it. Also thought I should let you know that Advichil misses you and he was thinking a lot about you during our post election sadness (how it was affecting you and such). Right now we're rooming together in NYC, hopefully sometime you can come visit.

PipThePirate In reply to Kamachu [2016-11-20 19:30:58 +0000 UTC]
I would say probably when Spring starts, which is usually around April, although it's hard to predict now because of how messed up the seasons are from climate change. :/ But that's definitely the best weather, and hopefully by then Advichil and I will have gotten more setup with our own stuff (me with work, him with school). It would be easier to determine a time once we get more into winter and I can get an idea of how long the season is going to last. Either way, it would have to be a while before June, or a while after it, because Advichil and I really want to move out of our apartment and June is when our lease is up. Do you have any idea of how long you would be able to visit for? And how early ahead do you need to know a time?

My current employment situation is up in the air because im 90% close/serious to becoming freelance after working labor jobs for over a decade-- Its just a matter of putting out ALOT of work and hope i can keep up sales to make the same money Id easily get from a pre-determined wage at a job. If Im successful than I wont need a schedule/to request off, and I can fly anytime and work as Im visiting/traveling. I pray this is the case! If not, and im still working, then Ill just have to put in a request ahead of time. And late June sounds great! Summertime and I wont be in school yet either~

PipThePirate In reply to Kamachu [2016-12-03 19:56:49 +0000 UTC]
Sorry for the late reply, I got a little overwhelmed with stuff for a week and then I just hibernated.
Awesome though! It'll be so much fun when you visit, Advichil got all excited when I told him you might visit. And just to avoid any confusion, since our lease is up in June, we might be a bit hectic from moving (assuming we do, which we better, cause our apartment sucks), so it would either have to be closer to the very end of June/beginning of July, or a while before June. Either would be fine though, just give us a heads up so we can plan/take time off of course.
I hope freelancing goes well for you! I know first hand that that sort of thing has a lot of luck involved, and I know I sure as hell get annoyed when people say stuff to me like, "You can do it, I know you can!" As if the fact that you're talented means that everything just falls into place like nothing. It always pisses me off, but that being said, I'm going to contradict myself and say that I think you have a higher chance of success than most kids, not only because you know how to work hard, but also because you're very good and experienced at using online platforms, which is a huge part of the process. Even if it doesn't go the way you want, it'd definitely won't be because of you, it be because of luck.
Either way, I imagine you'll be one of the few art kids who actually becomes successful as an artist, no matter what path you take to get there. <3

Thats ok omg ive been busy too-- which actually I got a new job! And it all works out in the end because I get alot less hours then I do now BUUUT higher pay! So I have so so much more time to draw now and I can focus even better on becoming a full time artist. It's really just not a pipe dream for me, and im not going to stay a broken record, because I have alot of it planned out. I've come so far craving this as a career so I cant stop now, I just cant-- even though, I might not even get to go to SCAD.. I couldnt enroll for fall because I was moving at the time, so I planned on entering winter break.. but now Im pushing it to enter Spring quarter (i cant push it any farther than that, otherwise ill have to reapply, and REPAY the $500 I busted my ass for this summer to hand over to them like it was nothing, even though its ALOOOT of money to me)
Β They want 5,000$ from me for just /one quarter/ and Ive a) gotten all the scholarships the school can give me b) taken out all the government loans i can c) my parents have nothing to do with me and theyre poor and have bad credit so theyre no help of helping me and got denied for a cosigner d) Im not rich or have rich family
So if I cant get that 5k$ by spring, I cant go. People say "apply for scholarships" bitchhh how many people do you know successfully get scholarships online from applying and writing those damn essays? Id lose my head if I tried to count but Ive applied nonstop (competing againts the hundreds of kids across the nation who do the same thing of course) and Ive never gotten rewarded one. They also say "just choose a cheaper school" wow thats easy for them to say after I left my entire life behind in orlando to move to savannah for new home new job new everything AND scad is the best school for the comic/sequential art degree that I want. Noone understands because most people have rich/endowed family and I have jack shit. Bottom of the barrel. I try not to complain on a daily basis. But i live life scraping by with my fingernails, with no support/connections financially at all, breaking my back working away like a slave... to ... live? to survive? if I cant get the job or degree i want to get the job that will actually make me happy and make it WORTH breaking my back on a daily basis for, then theres nothing else for me tbh. sorry, i just get heated when i talk about jobs/school/the future. I hope i even have one haha //rant overΒ

Dude, I absolutely feel you. I had to couch surf for the first six months when I first moved up here and all the money I was earning was going towards food/transit, and people said the same things to me, as if I had been sitting on my hands doing nothing. I ended up having to defer my enrollment once I got in because I couldn't afford anything. The only thing I was able to do was I called the government loans service and laid out some incredible sob story and they worked with me and gave me the max financial aid I could receive. I ended up having to do that every year. It was the only thing that worked, combined with hard living/working. You can't help what you can't change. If for whatever reason you aren't able to get in for the spring semester, would you be able to afford taking a summer course there? If you could find a way to connect with a professor at the school well enough to get them to write you a recommendation letter for your application it would improve your chances (I think it did for me with NYU, cause I didn't get in the first time).
I don't know shit about anything, but the only helpful words I can give is don't fight help from other people. You might not be the type of person who does that, and in that case no worries. But if you are just don't screw yourself like I've done. The only person I trust to have my back is me (especially after all the shit that happened with the addicts in my family while I was in school, reeeeally fucked things up), and I kind of expect everyone to fuck me over at this point. And I've made things harder for myself at times because of it. I hope somebody down there has your back, cause I know it sucks to fight solo. <3
Do you have the time/resources/platforms to do commissions? It might not be a lot, but it would be something, especially during the holiday season.
I'm happy for you for getting a newer, more flexible job! At least if you do have to break out some creative money making plans, or pick up any odd jobs, you'll have a little time for it.

So I've been staring at this comment for a while wondering who you were talking about, but I'm gonna guess it's Bridget and Aaron? If so, it would be awesome to see Bridget again, but Aaron and I haven't talked in years, like since high school I think. It was just one of those friendships that fell off after graduation. I don't even think we're on FB anymore. But Bridget and I are still good friends, though I don't know the money situation there. If it's possible it would be amazing. <3

yeahhh i was referring to the old squad )': im sorry things didnt work out. Aaron and I talk once and a while but James/Bridget and I talk a bit more often than that... that being said I havent been on FB since august so ive missed alot of stuff. I really want to avoid people-related-headaches. It would be worth a shot thooooo ;u;

Yeah same here. That's what the last two years have been and I'm ready for fun times instead of stress times. I think James/Bridget would be up for it if the money is there. I'll ask next time we talk. Advichil would definitely be excited if both of you were able to visit. The two of you are some of the only high school friends he still talks about often.

That sounds awesome! Although, could you give me until at least the end of the month or so before you buy anything? Our lease is up June 15th, and whether or not we're moving/slash what things are going to be like has gotten a little vague recently. I just need to talk to Advichil and my parents about stuff to solidify our game plan. I just don't want you to spend money and have it go sideways

Holy shit dude, that's insane! I totally thought about joining the Air Force back in high school when I was thinking about going into science, but felt that I didn't have the brains for it (cause of learning disabilities and also kinda sucking at science lol). That's awesome! Hopefully we can meet up someday before we both fucking drop dead and you can tell me the whole lead up to this. I'm interested, since the Air Force and the Navy are probably the two you hear people joining the least often. Are you hoping to fly, or be a part of their intelligence programs?
