Actually, it means "alumni" which is a discontinued form of senior member. In the first times of deviantART, when a staff member left the team, they got the alumni symbol.

I think it's because he is a member of DA Team.
That's also why he as been able to change his name, contrary to basic member like us who are unfortunately, not allowed to change it.
