Originally I used to thank everyone who added me to their favourites. Now I look at their site and if they do not acknowledge being thanked then I don't bother.

Today, Monday, 31 July is my 86th birthday. I am happy to have arrived at such an age and still find myself in relatively good health and enjoying life. God has indeed blessed me.

Thank you Kev, for the birthday wishes. It warms my heart that you would remember me. I had a lovely birthday. Thirty-three people sent me birthday wishes on FB. This year I did not have the traditional cake with ice cream. After all there was only my husband and I here to celebrate the day. Where does one put 84 candles on a cake anyway? Instead, I had a slice of pie with two scoops of my favorite ice cream, butter pecan.

Thanks, Kev. I had a lovely birthday with two of my favorite desserts, Southern Pecan Pie with Butter Pecan ice cream, compliments of a neighboring couple. As far as drawing someone's portrait or creating any other form of art, I have been in a similar slump. The last drawing I did was a colored pencil portrait (not very good) of Eleanor Tomlinson who plays Demelza in the 2015 BBC production of author Winston Graham's POLDARK. The first season of POLDARK has ended on our PBS channel. There were 8 episodes. They were shown on consecutive Sundays, each one an hour long except episodes 7 and 8. Those two were shown together in a two-hour presentation. My husband and I watched all of them and enjoyed them. We look forward to next season which is presently being filmed in Cornwall, UK. I think part of the reason for my slump is that it is summer. There seem to be more distractions in the warm weather than there are in cold weather. Tuesday I baked a Wacky Cake to give to the neighbor couple yesterday. They are the couple that gave me the pie and ice cream for my birthday. Earl turned 89 years old yesterday. Along with the chocolate cake with a chocolate frosting, we gave them s carton of vanilla and a carton of chocolate ice cream. The Wacky Cake is the cake I used to bake for many of our family birthdays. The recipe I used comes from a Virginia cookbook my mother bought for me at Swift Run Gap's gift shop in 1960 when my parents were in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is a lovely moist chocolate cake that gets its name because there are 2 tablespoons of vinegar in it. A Mrs. Russell H. Inskeep of Culpeper County won a prize for this cake at the 1957 Mrs. America contest. She topped her cake with a caramel icing. That recipe is also in the book. I often iced my cakes with a coconut pecan frosting, but I played it safe and put a chocolate frosting on Earl's birthday cake. It is a good thing I did, because several people in their family do not like coconut.

Actually your birthday wishes are early because my husband's 86th birthday is not until the first day in November. The Wacky cake I baked was for a neighbor man, Earl Sproat. Earl and his wife Maxine live across the street from us. Love your two latest drawings!! Keep up the great work.

Hello Joyce thanks so much for the favourites of my bird pictures, my word you've had an exciting life haven't you? There are some 'promo' films of Connies', on utube, which are great to watch, yes flying was so romantic in those days, though not perhaps for the crew and cabin staff? I do intend to do a painting of a Constellation in the near future, once I have some others out of the way.
I want to say that your art is simply wonderful, I feel greatly honoured that you should think mine worthy of favouring.

You are welcome, Billy. I like your photos. One of the factors in your photos that really interests me, is their unusual lighting. For instance, your photo "Night Walk." Not many photographers would even try to take a photo under those circumstances, when one street light is the street's sole illumination. Yet everyone and everything in that photo is recognizable. Bravo!!!l

You are very welcome, dear. I don't know where I've been, but I should have done this a long time ago. We had nasty weather here Sunday. Monday was cold but clear. Today is sunny. It is slowing warming up.....just in time for another cold spell I fear. Thank goodness we did not get much sleet or snow. We are most thankful that we did not lose power. That is when things really turn ugly.

We had an ice storm this week. All the roads were iced over. Kids are out of school. Did give me a chance to pain my Granddaughter's headboard. I'll have to post pictures. Did one stroke roses, etc. on it. Luckily we didn't lose power either. I am ready for spring!!!
