When I tote up all the books I *have* read, though, it's a bit more impressive And to be honest there are some on there I just wouldn't bother with (like the Da Vinci Code. Dear God...)

Not so much for myself! I have all these books and have researched them all but haven't had the time to read them! I mean I even crack jokes about them!

It'd be nice to own a magic stopwatch, so you can just pause time, go off a read for a bit, then come back where you left off

Perhaps with a good supply of penicillin, though
When I was little we still had some of the old currency in use as the new currency - so old florins (two shillings)were used as 10p pieces, and old shillings were used as 5p pieces. I used to have fantasies of going back to the 50s with all these florins and shillings and buying huge amounts of chocolate with them Or just throwing out handfuls of them to small children

I would of love to spend a day in the 1800 in Paris. Just experiencing history in the making! Ah If someone could just Make it so!

A'www That's nice! The Children would surely of enjoyed it! ;D

The last time (the only time) I was in Paris it kept raining! But it was a cool place. We went up the Eiffel Tower, but we couldn't see the ground from the top (this was in August, too!)
I'd like to go back to France, though - see how much French I remember

I don't think I was there at night - we were camping, doing a mini-tour of northern France, so we probably just went in for the day. I remember eating an enormous croque monsieur, and loads of African guys trying to sell us flying model birds, and my dad bewildering them by telling them in English about the chickens and geese we had at home, complete with arm movements to show how they flew
gosh, I want to go back there now, with my camera It's so close from here, really, too - just a case of getting on a train, now the Channel Tunnel's built (although ferries are fun ).
Okay, I'll stop reminiscing on your profile now

If you live on the south coast you can pop over to France for the day. From here I suppose it'd be about four or five hours on the train down to the channel, and then - I don't know how long it takes from there. But it's better than eight hours on a plane to New York (although you don't get New York at the other end )

Hmmm In Texas it must be longer. Houston is near the Gulf so it must be a long way. I've only been to southern states and Mexico. Besides California. I don't think that would be called a southern state.

It's really incredible just how BIG America is. People get at you for not knowing much outside your own country - but your country is a continent, and everywhere else but Mexico and Canada is so far away! I'd love to see all the American states - I've got a friend in Georgia who keeps inviting me over. It sounds beautiful there So far I've only been to San Francisco and New York, because my sister has lived there.

It really is big! It's actually nice , when you are on a roadtrip, to look at the land. You go through each state and see something different!

I know but sadly I don't get very many people who know what I am talking about when I say my last name is great. They just look at me funny or call me Jewish.

Aconitum-Napellus In reply to GrIMmJaW27 [2009-08-08 21:43:02 +0000 UTC]

Khan? Jewish?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GrIMmJaW27 In reply to Aconitum-Napellus [2009-08-08 21:52:52 +0000 UTC]

Yup. I was at a friends house and her neighbor came over. He was showing off his "Spanish speaking skills" and asked if any one knew what he was saying. I, obviously, said yes and he was shock and then asked what my name was. I then told him " My name is Maalie Khan" and he just yelled at me "YOUR A JEW?!?!?" He apparently doesn't know the difference between the Jewish "Kahn" and the Arab "Khan". So now I get called Jewish alot.

Aconitum-Napellus In reply to GrIMmJaW27 [2009-08-08 22:03:31 +0000 UTC]

So you're a Spanish speaking American Arab? Did you know 'Maalie' is the shetland name for a fulmar? (yes, I've been googling it )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GrIMmJaW27 In reply to Aconitum-Napellus [2009-08-09 05:06:04 +0000 UTC]

Kinda. I am a half Mexican from my mothers side and half Arab from my fathers side. So I am a Arab Mexican American who has been called a Jew. xD

Who really? I know my name means "My Highness" in Arabic.

Oh! I was going to ask you, do you know how to pronounce it?
Most people get it wrong! I'm very shocked when they do get it right!

Aconitum-Napellus In reply to GrIMmJaW27 [2009-08-09 18:26:51 +0000 UTC]

I had it in my head as rhyming with barley, which probably makes me wrong

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GrIMmJaW27 In reply to Aconitum-Napellus [2009-08-09 18:35:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah your wrong! But It's okay people always get it wrong! It's actually pronounced "Molly" you just change the vowel sound of the A. So it's like M-aw-lee.
