(Also, I went on over to your page and SHEESH, you're good. I sure wasn't cranking out realism like that at age 17.)

Nah, it's a misleading handle and I really should change it. (I have an alternate history comic set in Ukraine about ethnic disputes over the Crimea -- I started drawing it before the current...stuff -- it just turned out that way.)

And thanks very much! I'm glad you enjoy it.

Hi, just wanted to say that I love your webcomic. Although I'm allergic to Yaroslav's co-working with Russians (any co-working with Russians), I keep reading and reading because your comic contains EVERYTHING that I love: adventure, war - but with some humanity, great-but-not-totally-evil-villains, nice style.. and takes part in Slavic part of Europe, it's nice to see familiar names and all

Hah, well, maybe I should apologize, but Chekhov and Slava's bromance is serious fun to write/draw, but I can see how citizens of our respective countries might have different takes on Russia. (I tend to be very unhappy with how Western media has handled coverage of the real-world mess in Ukraine, especially about Russia's involvement, but that's another discussion.)

But yeah, thanks! I'm so glad you're enjoying it. I think we like similar things in comics.

(And sorry to take so long to reply -- I was vacationing in Poland and was away from a computer.)

Here in Poland ? Hope you enjoyed them! About that real-life mess - what do you personally think of it? Are there any chances so things could get better?Β

In the Tatra Mountains, in Zakopane, and Krakow. Incredibly beautiful places, and the mountains reminded me very much of another mountain range that's home to me. I'm going back someday, that's for sure. I was only there very briefly, but I really loved it.Β

Ugh. I can't see it ending well in the foreseeable future. The post-coup government in Kiev has way too much influence from groups like Svoboda, who are frighteningly ethnocentric and violent, verging on neo-fascist, which is not a word I throw around lightly. (It was incredibly cynical of various countries to support the coup, but that's enough rant for another day.) And the Donetsk guys ain't exactly a utopia either. And right now the ordinary people caught in the crossfire are really severely suffering. But I'd love to be wrong about my predictions.Β

Well, I wouldn't want to force you into it or something (I mean, you just updated it yesterday) but, I do anxiously await its arrival
Lol, I was reading and then you updated a page right on that day...it was kind of lucky like that.

Hey, at least the timing worked out.

I appreciate the internet courtesy all the more because it's rare, but I always have a page in the works, so it's on its way! By the way, I'm guessing you found this page via my WWII Polish ... doodle ... thing? Just curious.

Oh, no actually I found you through my friends on tumblr, weaselfeet and mellow (or her other long url haha). They had reblogged or said something about your art or comic so I checked your tumblr out and then...links. I actually was on the official comic website before I realized you had a dA page u_u.

thanks for the fav on my sassy kaiser, lol. And holy crap, your webcomic is something else. How long have you been working on it? I started reading it over at its website and couldn't stop...

Heh, it made me laugh. (It didn't hurt that I first saw the photo with the caption "Baby, let's make like pre-1871 German states and unify!" which is either the best or the worst pickup line I've ever heard.)

Glad you like the comic! I've been drawing it, what, two and a half years now? Maybe three?

trenchWeasel In reply to CrimeanDoodler [2012-08-25 00:28:04 +0000 UTC]

still reading it. It's f-ing great. How long does it take you per page?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CrimeanDoodler In reply to trenchWeasel [2012-08-25 00:44:51 +0000 UTC]

It depends on the page--anywhere from six to twenty hours. The one I'm currently working on, as I type (that this [link] is a preview of) seems to be shaping up to be a twenty-hour one.

That's my favorite part of comics -- how you can indicate speed and timing and all that with just pictures. It's fun. If you'd like, I'd be happy to help out.

The comic you have in the works looks to be interesting and well-drawn (nice expressive faces and snazzy colors), if hella sad. Poor guy picked a really bad time and place to be openly gay...
(It reminded me a little of a story...comic...thing...set between the end of WWI and start of WWII and mostly in Berlin I've been kicking around lately. The main character's also an academic.)

I'm working on a historical fiction comic...got the story, characters down (more or less). Working on my art, always. Now I'm trying to wrap my head around the actual panel-building part. I may shoot you some questions at some point, if that's ok, because your style definitely works.

Your webcomic is amazing! I love all of the characters, and your art creates such a perfect atmosphere- I especially like how you draw the snowy landscapes and the fight scenes. And the whole thing seems so well researched! I'm not done with it yet but I can't wait to read more.
