It was supposed to be a 2D animation! And it would have looked fucking fantastic!
And I've even seen the drawings of Macavity by Nico Marlet years ago because he's one of my favorite artists. But I did not realize it was gonna be for an actual movie! I thought it's a fanart of the Musical or something.
And now I'm angry they fucked up a very cool Cats movie. 8I AHHHH.
Why has everybody in the movie industry become so 2D-animation-phobic? lol

Because CGI movies are hip, happening, and easier to make. Even Don Bluth's going through a lot to get the movie based on his game Dragon's Lair out, and he's reaponsible for some of the biggest kids movies of the 80's.

Isn't it sad, though? They go full "easy and time-saving > quality" these days.
It's like watching classical artworks disappear because of modern art (AKA three pencil lines on a piece of paper for two million dollars.) It's not fun anymore.
I don't know, it's just my opinion. 3D/CGI was not what inspired me both as an audience and as artist.
3D videogames being an exception.
