Have you heard about our revolution? What do you think about it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LiraLindale In reply to Aristena [2014-01-28 22:14:29 +0000 UTC]

It's been all over the news or talked about in political programmes for a while, yeah. I'm a bit confused in that I don't know if I understand what is going on completely. It's sad to see violent developments and people losing their lives in protests. Every now and again at Spain something like that comes up, but never to that scale. I'm quite stuck on the original problem of the not signing of that treaty with the EU (although I guess that as a law student and a spaniard I'm quite biased in favour of the EU as an organisation even though I criticise it), and then there is the anti-protest laws which... well. I dislike them to say the least because of what that type of thing does.

This is pretty much all that I can say on the topic, not sure how accurate it is to say it though.

Aristena In reply to LiraLindale [2014-01-28 22:53:31 +0000 UTC]

In fact I didn`t understand your attitude towards the EU...What did you mean?
Our people do not trust EU completely, but they consider it to be much better than Russia and its customs union. Some historical developments. But our president didn`t want to regard the most people`s opinion and just ignored ukrainians, who tried to solve this problem peacefully. And then it started...Insolent neglection of people`s rights. No rights, no laws, no justice. Our government has gone too far.

Today there were the first concessions! Some of those unconstitutional laws were repealed.

Sorry for my bad English)

So are you in UK for stydying?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LiraLindale In reply to Aristena [2014-01-28 23:17:46 +0000 UTC]

No worries

I mean, I dislike the EU's bureaucracy quite a lot, along with some biases that it apparently has and some economic and legal policies, but in the end it seems like it isn't such a bad idea or thing to have. It's a bit of a love-hate thing for me, mostly because of details though.

I can understand where that comes from. Interestingly enough, that is pretty much how people seem to view this at Spain. Especially relating to Russia's customs union (and it's apparent influence). I was honestly quite surprised to see that the treaty wasn't signed at all. That's good to see, at least! Hopefully the situation can be resolved soon-ish, or at least the neglection of people's rights that has been going on can come to an end.

I'm studying law . I was going to study at Madrid at first, but I had the chance to go outside and I thought I'd use it

Aristena In reply to LiraLindale [2014-01-30 15:15:38 +0000 UTC]

EU's bureaucracy? I've heard that "some important persons" in EU (I do not know how they are called) are obliged to control other countries(EU members) to prevent corruption in their governments. If there is a lot of bureaucracy, there also corruption is possible, I suppose...

Wow, it's cool to go for studying to another country! A little bit frightening, perhaps)  How long have you been studying there? And what university?

By the way, ukrainians, who live in Spain(one of the largest ukrainian diasporas), also support and encourage our euromaidan.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LiraLindale In reply to Aristena [2014-01-30 15:46:52 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, there are a few things like that. It's mostly just laws from treaties signed that have to be applied within the countries. I actually have no idea how much corruption would be possible (I know more about corruption within Spain, to be honest), but I don't think I've really heard about a major case happening before of that.

Yeah, it really was >.<. I'm quite used to it now, but it feels really strange to be away from my family (and Spain). it's pretty cool though. I'm on my second year, so it's only a year more after I finish this one. After that I have no idea where I'll go (hopefully I'll be able to travel quite a lot). University of Kent too . How about you?

Ooh, that sounds quite logical! Things would be a lot easier for everyone working there if there was no need to apply for a working visa (and instead moving around the EU without those would be possible).

Aristena In reply to LiraLindale [2014-01-30 16:22:15 +0000 UTC]

Oh, now in Ukraine it is pretty cool, 1 () F in Kyiv, it's impossible to go outside! O_O

I'm also on my second year studying Software Engineering, and there are two years after this one to get the bachelor. And then probably I`ll take two years more to get a Master's Degree. I also had to leave my home, but not as far as you had had. Just to another city about 800km away.

Do you work somewhere by specialty while studying? Is it necessary to have an experience of work?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LiraLindale In reply to Aristena [2014-01-30 16:41:26 +0000 UTC]

Ooh, wow! Nothing as cold over here, just around 1 or 2ºC outside! I've never have been somewhere with a temperature lower than -5ºC outside >.<. I can cope with warm temperatures much easily though.

Ooh, nice! I remember wanting to study that before deciding for law, must be really interesting! You're pretty close then! I'm technically pretty close to Spain (around 2hr flight), but since it's a different country it really seems like it is much more furthe away.

I sort of do, in the sense that I get to chose what areas of law I can study after the 'core' ones have been finished. Next year i'll be picking quite a lot of European law, International law and Intellectual Property law (the last one mainly for privacy issues). This year I could chose a bit of that as well, but I'm still going through the mandatory ones. Experience of work is recommended if one wants to actually be a laywer afterwards, not really obligatory though.

Aristena In reply to LiraLindale [2014-01-30 18:41:22 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's really interesting, sometimes very difficult, though. And a lot of math! This term we faced another problem - philosophy, which turned to be much worse than math, 'cause one should be very talkative to get A(the best mark, do you have the same?) in the end)

Do you have many mandatory subjects in comparison with chosen ones?

And are you going to be a lawer, by the way? Sometimes it seems to me that I have taken the wrong speciality and I wouldn't like to program software until the end of my days. I'm still in doubts.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LiraLindale In reply to Aristena [2014-02-01 21:25:21 +0000 UTC]

Ooh, wow! I must admit that while I'm not bad at maths, I find philosophy much easier to deal with . I can see where the problem is with it though, it seems like one must answer things in a certain way. And yeah, we have the same marks

There is slightly a bigger number of mandatory subjects rather than chosen ones. A bit of a shame, since I find the mandatory ones less interesting

I used to want to be a lawyer, but i'm not sure I want to be one anymore (ironically enough). I'd like if anythign to go into privacy protection areas for a bit, but mostly what I want to achieve is to be a writer. Maybe go into scriptwriting too . I completely understand, at times I wonder if I'm really studying the right thing at all as well. I guess in the end, so long as one is passionate about what they like, it all will go well

"There is slightly a bigger number of mandatory subjects rather than chosen ones".
The same situation. But most of them can't be called unnecessary. And most of them concern our profession. Certainly, there are some mandatory subjects like philosophy or ecology for the overall development. It's quite  possible to endure them.
By the way, have you had math at university?

Scriptwriting? To write stories for films? Sounds cool! What would you like to write about?
