he's kinda unbelievly immature otherwise. he's had a rough life before meeting aura. lol. to make this work i revised his history. logic is simple even providing that it is a high fantasy counter earth where technologically speaking swords are giving way to guns in duels and on the battle field.chances are most people don't have great expectancy50-60 being venerable. by 25 a woman is considered an old mid. people are still suspicious of disease. it's still seen by many as punishments from heaven.
but hes grown older with no love of authority and not much direction due to illness wiping them out."tom" might as well be dead, born in the quarantine zone or entering there with his family at no older than the ages of three have significantly shaped his outlook those who knew him as tom are probably all dead due to the accidents disease and the effects a thoroughly corrupt society tends to have on the poor and disadvantaged.

yep ... think of the classic immageriy of a highwayman/highway bandit 
oh i cant remember if i said this anywhere other than in the story the spanner (it's used to wind the firing mechanism on the wheellock pistols) he wears it hanging from a metal loop on a chain around his right wrist so it's quite literally always on hand speeding up process of reloading arming and cocking the gun.

I'm sorry, but I'm none too familiar with what a spanner looks like or how it is used on the gun. (I wish I knew alot more about firearms than I do!!) Could you explain or maybe send a picture of one??

XD yes and no.compared to predecessors the wheelock was vastly improved it has some minor manner of safety and mechanized firing spanner requirement or not. such as it could be used in the rain XD. technology are oftenlike that though.
