You're welcome. While our models are kind of different, we use quite similar techniques to combine model scene photos with different backgrounds.

Yes.
I use a blue screen with gimp. On the other hand I did not find an easily reproducible technique to balance the foreground and the background in color, lighting, contrast and tone.
Do you have a tip?

I also use GIMP. To get the model scene better blend into a background photo, I usually reduce colour saturation a little and overlay the entire picture by a slight cartoon filter effect (mostly with mask radius 2.0 and black share 0.2). The cartoon effect will prevent the model scene to look too toylike in front of a real life photo background. You may try out whether this will work for your pictures. Maybe, it will harm the look of the fancy hair of your models. For my specific pictures, I can also apply some fog and smoke. However, this will not work for your pictures since your dolls may start coughing.

Oh no! If my dolls cough I'll have to take them to the doctor!Β He's going to ask me embarrassing questions
Thank you very much for the information, because I did not really know how to use GIMP filters. It opens up many new horizons!
I often finalize with the google software suite nik collection. Some SILVER EFEX black-and-white filter catches the differences of contrast and textures well between the different planes (I am thinking in particular of the filter 24: complete contrast and structure).
I do not know if I said it to you: I am also a great fan of the american trains of the years 50s and 60s ... I have a huge collection of Magazine "Classic train". Your photos reproduce very well the atmosphere of some pages of this magazine.

On some pictures, I also applied an Aviary filter. However, I use these filters mainly for normal photos. Here is one of the few examples in which I applied an Aviary filter on a model scene to achieve a more dramatic look:

An Alco FA from NYC! My favorite! And more in this atmosphere of smog! Really very successful. I have to test all these filters. I really thank you very much.

I have been there several times. Last time was in August this year when I was spending part of my summer vacation in Hamburg.
